Nice, but not what I expected... : Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro Hammock
I bought this hammock a little over a year ago and use it on several backpacking trips in place of a tent. I am very happy with what I feel is quality construction and very little that can go wrong with it down the line.
It is so lightweight and packs down easily into the small sack. I don't have to work in in a certain way to make it fit; it really does pack down small every time. While I don't have experience with the lightweight $300-$400 backpacking tents, I can't imagine any tent comparing to the small size and weight of this hammock. It packs down the about the size of a medium-sized bag of potato chips, and is soft so can be squeezed to fit efficiently in the pack. I love the soft fabric.
The bug net works well, and the design is very good. No complaints there either. It hangs exactly like the stock photo every time. My friend has what looks to be a nearly identical hammock but without the bug net from ENO, and wishes his had it. When I camp early enough in the year to not need the net, I simply flip the hammock upside down.
Another feature I appreciate that my friend's ENO hammock does not have it the simplicity of the rope hanging system. The ropes that come with the hammock detach. One end of each strap is tied in a loop. So you wrap the rope around the tree and fish the straight end through the loop to secure it. Then just attach it to the hammock. By the supplies "S" hook or a carabiner.
The one thing that could use an upgrade is the "S" hook hardware. They can come detached from the hammock by accident and get lost. It's not enough of a complaint to warrant a 4 star rating though, just a suggestion.
Lastly, the setup and take down is remarkably fast. I am slow with everything. If a tent says 10 minute setup, it might take me 20. This is seriously 3-5 minutes to set up without the bug net, 10 minutes tops with the bug net. Given the ease of setup and the small size, I just keep it in my trunk and have brought it out when we go places for the day.
